Why vote for me as Sheriff of Hanover County

I live in Hanover, I work in Hanover, I play in Hanover. Those of us who have lived in Hanover County for any period of time have seen and experienced the changes taking place in the world and how they affect the safety of Hanover citizens. Adults and children alike are facing situations, events, and dangers not experienced by previous generations. During the more than 44 years with the Sheriff's Office, I’ve seen and served through so many changes… even working in the dark areas of society as an undercover officer to help keep citizens safe from unknown dangers. 


As Sheriff of Hanover County, I will put my experience to work for you by focusing on ethical leadership, public safety, and accountability in all departments. Working my way through each sequential rank, I have served this community as a deputy, investigator, supervisor, and executive leader within the Sheriff’s Office. I understand every major function of the agency and the responsibility of leading it. I will lead with integrity, supporting our deputies and staff, manage taxpayers’ resources responsibly, and maintain the trust of the citizens we serve every day with experience, fairness, transparency, and accountability for Hanover County citizens.

Rickey joined the Hanover County Sheriff's Office in September 1981 as a patrol deputy and retired in 2026 as a Major. He earned and learned from each sequential promotion. Additionally, he's served in every division throughout his career in nearly every unit of the Sheriff’s Office.
